One cold day in January at Holland Elementary… Overflowing with joy, she ran up to me and told me that her testing numbers blew away her teachers. Since she is a child with an IEP there were clear targets of growth she was meant to hit. She didn’t just hit them. She more than doubled them.
How? As is often the case in a school environment, one might suggest it could have been many factors. Yet, the only piece that was different for her was actively participating in the BFR program in her 4th grade classroom at Holland Elementary. That’s it.
Her phonics skills were low when the year started. The Spelling to Read program gave her the tools she needed to begin to unlock the code. And, that she did.
Her teacher noticed the change in her reading and most importantly the little girl noticed. She had a newfound belief in herself and confidence that exuded from every pore as she shared her good news after the January i-Ready results came back.
