Learn how to effectively use evidence-based strategies that work for a wide variety of ages and abilities using the Brain Friendly Reading™ program. It is Orton-Gillingham based, grounded in decades of research, and informed by Maria Montessori's educational methods.
Each 18-hours course consists of mixture of lecture, discussion and practice. The goal is for each trainee to leave the session with practical strategies to implement in their classroom, as a tutor or in their non-profits literacy initiative. Long-term mentoring is encouraged. Certification is possible with the completion of an oral and written assessment along with a practicum experience.
The BFR Training Companion Guide provides an overview of the program and an instructional sequence for Tier 1, 2, and 3 to bring a child up to an end of 2nd-grade reading level. The lesson sequence goes from simple to more complex concepts. Each lesson contains brief teacher instructions, word lists, phonetic phrases and sentences, practice activities, reminders for spelling rules, and more. Each lesson is accompanied by multi-sensory, engaging activities for at least two skill levels.
