UFLI Aligned BFR Sound Charts for Tapping

Tapping sound charts – not just ours but any sound charts – is a game changer!  It is the easiest, brain friendly way to build automaticity with letter-sound correspondences and build phonemic awareness.  Most children need many more repetitions than they receive during Tier 1 instruction.  Chart tapping provides a way to practice those sounds again or target specific sounds Tier 2/3 or even at home. For the first two weeks, you and your students tap the desired chart call & response.  As the children learn the chart, just tap it all the way through one tap or ‘all together.’ It takes less than 3 minutes to tap a chart and is perfect for getting back into learning mode after a transition. Try out adding this to your Tier 1 instruction and notice how automaticity – faster and more accurate recall/application – with letter sound correspondences grows! These charts are loosely correlated with UFLI’s scope and sequence.  Some skills have been put together on the chart so it is easier for children to see the patterns.  And, note that you will tap the whole chart with your students within a few days.  You start call & response and you tap well ahead of the target skill you are teaching so the children really ‘know’ it by the time you get there.
