Play a fun card game to learn many of the more challenging high frequency words! These pages can be broken into several card decks according to the children’s ages and abilities. Children play the game just like Go Fish but the get three similar cards to make a ‘match.’ 9 pages total in this download. Example: 1st/2nd grader – 2 pages (6 sets of words) is plenty to start. Children need enough decoding and sight word recognition to read most of the words. This game is intended to build fluency with older struggling readers for whom the repeated reading will help to build rapid recall of these words but also some pattern recognition since many cards tackle a certain grapheme or skill (like schwa). This game is not meant for young children who are receiving initial instruction in these various patterns.
