Uncovering the simplest and most effective strategies for moving children up the ladder of reading is the cornerstone of Brain Friendly Reading. After spending years in classrooms (1st-8th) with no tools to help struggling readers, I became an Orton-Gillingham trained Dyslexia Specialist. Firmly rooted in the Science of Reading, Elaine and I have carefully curated the BFR program. As the Lead Trainer and Curriculum Designer, I work with teachers, parents, and tutors, equipping them with both the theory and practical skills necessary to be successful.
While my primary role is as the Executive Director of BFR, I do see tutoring clients in Farmington Hills, MI and on-line. Working with children inspires me to keep advocating for evidence-based reading instruction in our schools and provides important interactions where insight and innovation happen. info@brainfriendlyreading.org

I mastered the art of teaching reading to young children of varying abilities first as a Head Teacher in a Montessori classroom. As a TX State Certified teacher and public school administrator, I coached and mentored teachers. After receiving nationally recognized dyslexia training through Neuhaus, I came back to my first love, working with struggling readers as a Reading Specialist in an elementary school with over 1,000 children. Moving children up to grade level fluency as quickly as possible was the goal. It meant I had to innovate new ways of teaching groups of children while getting unmatched results. When I moved to Michigan, I began tutoring. Kristin and I collaborated in create the Brain Friendly Reading program. Elaine tutors in person in Livonia, MI

When my second son struggled to read, I became frustrated. Even as a reading specialist, I didn't have the right tools to teach a child with dyslexia. For the past 6 years my passion has been to learn as much as I can about dyslexia, Orton-Gillingham, the science of reading, and how best to teach dyslexic children.
