I am a certified elementary education teacher in the state of Michigan with a focus in Language Arts.  For the past years I've worked with children in a variety of settings. Since discovering Brain Friendly Reading my goal has been to use the science of reading to help struggling readers grow their skills so they can reach their full potential and gain confidence in themselves. I am a mother of five grown children and six grandchildren. While my background is not in education, I bring a unique perspective to reading and dyslexic tutoring because I am dyslexic. I struggled with reading throughout childhood and most of my adult life until becoming aware that the science of reading can help one to develop the skills required to read and write. The Brain Friendly Reading program enabled me to acquire the skills I needed.

I am very passionate about this work because I did not get the reading help I needed until I became an adult. I had to heal from the emotional wounds I suffered during my own educational experiences so I can empathize with what you or your child are going through. Helping children to develop the skills they need to realize their potential gives me great joy. I absolutely love this work!

I am a retired special educator with 28 years of public school experience working with children in elementary and middle school. I hold a Michigan teaching certificate in elementary education/special education K-12, with a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities. I have enjoyed working with students at various reading levels and helping them make significant gains in their reading progress, as well as helping them become more confident in their reading abilities. I am a speech-language pathologist with over ten years of experience in private practice and public schools. I have a BA in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Michigan State University and a MA in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Michigan University. While practicing in Atlanta, I completed thirty hours of Orton-Gillingham training with the Director of Teacher Training at the Schenck School, a school for students with dyslexia. This coursework helped solidify my passion for literacy and since then I’ve tried to incorporate what I learned into my sessions with even my youngest students. I’m excited to use my knowledge of language-based reading disorders, Orton-Gillingham, and Brain Friendly Reading into sessions with your child to help them meet their potential! I am a certified elementary teacher as well as a certified reading specialist with over 20 years of experience teaching reading in grades 1-8. I have always been fascinated and intrigued by dyslexia, so I have made it my goal to learn as much about dyslexia as possible. Throughout my career I have worked with many dyslexic students.
