I am a mother of five grown children and six grandchildren. While my background is not in education, I bring a unique perspective to reading and dyslexic tutoring because I am dyslexic. I struggled with reading throughout childhood and most of my adult life until becoming aware that the science of reading can help one to develop the skills required to read and write. The Brain Friendly Reading program enabled me to acquire the skills I needed.
I am very passionate about this work because I did not get the reading help I needed until I became an adult. I had to heal from the emotional wounds I suffered during my own educational experiences so I can empathize with what you or your child are going through. Helping children to develop the skills they need to realize their potential gives me great joy. I absolutely love this work!

I am a speech-language pathologist with over ten years of experience in private practice and public schools. I have a BA in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Michigan State University and a MA in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Michigan University. While practicing in Atlanta, I completed thirty hours of Orton-Gillingham training with the Director of Teacher Training at the Schenck School, a school for students with dyslexia. This coursework helped solidify my passion for literacy and since then I’ve tried to incorporate what I learned into my sessions with even my youngest students. I’m excited to use my knowledge of language-based reading disorders, Orton-Gillingham, and Brain Friendly Reading into sessions with your child to help them meet their potential! I am a certified teacher in Raeford, North Carolina with a degree in early childhood education. I began my career teaching 2nd grade for three years, then moving to Pre-Kindergarten where I remained a teacher for 8 years. In the fall of 2020 I returned to teaching 2nd grade. After observing so many children with reading difficulties that I could not explain or figure out where to begin with remediation, I sought further training through BFR. It has now become my passion to advocate for the children who need this intervention in their lives and to create an awareness of dyslexia and other closely related reading difficulties. I tutor in-person in the Fayetteville, NC area. Contact me at ywells85@gmail.com

I am a certified elementary teacher as well as a certified reading specialist with over 20 years of experience teaching reading in grades 1-8. I have always been fascinated and intrigued by dyslexia, so I have made it my goal to learn as much about dyslexia as possible. Throughout my career I have worked with many dyslexic students. I have watched them struggle with letter sounds, and call themselves stupid, to being able to read entire paragraphs and being proud of themselves. Helping my students build their confidence with reading is key to all learning. I love to add games and decodable texts to my tutoring, so my kids enjoy learning and feel successful with reading. I am so proud to add my certification in Brain Friendly Reading to my resume. I am located on Long Island NY and willing to tutor in person (I am vaccinated) or remotely. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Trinity University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Houston. I have over 25 years of experience teaching children in kindergarten through third grade in both public and private schools. One of the reasons I became a teacher is to share my love of reading with children and help them become lifelong readers. Brain Friendly Reading is a unique reading and spelling program that works for all learners. The best part of every session is playing the games - my students ask to play them again and again! It’s amazing what winning Go Fish does for a reader’s confidence! I’m committed to helping as many children as possible move up the reading ladder.
